Yeast Infection Explained! Causes | Treatment | Symptoms

Infections can be itchy and uncomfortable. No one really talks about these things in the open because they are embarrassed and they try to hush it up. The vaginal infections in women are one of the things which women feel uncomfortable to open up. However, vaginal infections are very common in women. Yeast infections can happen to anyone at any time. There are some specific reasons which cause yeast infections. Most of them can be cleared easily but others can take time before they completely leave without a trace.

The vaginal area normally consists of yeast and bacteria in a healthy balance. There is a hormone called estrogen that allows the growth of lactobacilli to grow. These bacteria have the ability to get rid of harmful organisms in the vagina and they act like that to keep the area healthy. But sometimes because of some problems, the balance is disrupted and then only the yeast infection is caused. The fungus termed as Candida will grow without any control and this, in turn, results in the yeast infection.

What are the causes?

The fungus called the Candida albicans is the main cause of all kinds of yeast infections in the vagina. The vagina has a balanced mix of yeast which consists of the candida and bacteria. There is a particular bacterial called the (lactobacillus) which acts to discourage the growth of yeast more than the healthy quantity. When that balance gets interrupted and the yeast grows more than the limit it causes the infection. There will be the overgrowth of the candida or the fungus in the external regions of the vagina and the cells which can lead to the symptoms of yeast infection.

The overgrowth of the yeast and the cause of the infection are because of the following reasons.

  •    The use of antibiotics can cause a disturbance in the natural layers of the vagina.
  •    Uncontrolled diabetes.
  •    The immune system is weak.
  •    The poor eating habits.
